Like a bridge over troubled water
Wednesday, September 10th, 2008So it’s week 3 of school and things are starting to fall into place. Classes are going well even after I switched around my schedule about a bazillion times. As of now I’m taking Interpersonal Communication, Intro to Communication, Intro to Human Services, Psychology of Adolescence and Adulthood, and my Senior Seminar (even though I’m not a senior). All of my classes seem like a nice mix and I think for some reason they all complement each other really well.
My seminar seems like it might be the most challenging this semester, not only because it is writing intensive and I truly dislike writing (ironic huh?) but also because of the topic. The class is going to focus on the Psychology of Media which sounds totally cool, and it is so far. However, it deals with a lot of politics and the very big election that is taking place sooooooon. Problem= I know absolutely NOTHING about politics. How am I going to write all of these papers? That’s what’s on my mind right now. To be honest though I’m not really scared. It’s probably going to be a really big challenge but I’m ready for it.
To prepare myself for this class I decided to educate myself on what is going on in our country. I started picking up the newspaper everyday and I began checking out political websites so I could learn the candidates stances on particular issues. I listened to their speeches and played them over and over again until I understood exactly what they were saying. Most of the time I don’t know what they’re saying but who does anyways? I do give all of them credit for what they are doing. I’d be so scared to do public speaking like that.
I feel like I’ve learned so much after doing this for a week that I was able to formulate my own opinions about the nominees. For once I think I could actually have a conversation with another person about politics. Maybe not a long conversation, but a conversation nonetheless. Overall, I’m just really proud of myself for doing this and I’m REALLY REALLY excited to vote. I hope you all are too, and I hope that this post encourages people to vote as well. And if you feel like you don’t know anything either remember you’re not the only one and it’s really easy to find information today especially with the web! Just type something in and there you go.
So who’s going to vote?!?!?!?!?!?
Okay, that’s it for now. I’m sleep deprived, Bridge Over Troubled Water is stuck in my head, and my bed is calling my name…
Later,
Kevin
