It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus
Monday, November 3rd, 2008Happy Monday! What a great weekend…Halloween came and went but it was a great time. As mentioned previously, I was out of spirit this year so I didn’t even dress up or do anything extra exciting. I did go to the Headless Horseman though and it was a lot of fun. It was really scary and so creative. Costumes, and sets, and everything else was just perfect in my opinion.
It was also a nice weekend because I wasn’t bombarded with work to do. All I really had to do was get some reading done which isn’t too bad and write a paper for my human services class.
For the paper we were required to interview a Human Service Worker and find out about their responsibilities, duties, roles, views, etc.
I decided to interview Jim Tinger, the Youth Director for the New Paltz Youth Program, an organization which provides educational, recreational, and social opportunities for Middle School and High School students.
Interviewing Jim was even an educational experience for me just because I got to learn so much about what he does, and let me tell you, it’s ALOT. Even while we were conducting the interview he was supervising, answering calls, answering questions from the kids, and preparing for the Programs Annual Haunted House.
Not only was he doing all of this, he was doing it with a smile on his face and nothing seemed to phase him. Working with a whole bunch of children all day has to be exhausting but you’d never be able to tell just by looking at him. What you could tell though was that he thoroughly enjoys his job and cares for the people who take part in the Youth Programs services. To me this is very admirable and in my opinion he serves as a great role model. What’s even cooler is that many New Paltz college students are able to volunteer at the center

Finally, to round out the Halloween weekend I watched Hocus Pocus (my all time favorite Halloween-ish Movie) and Interview with the Vampire, a classic I.M.O., with some kewl people. Hocus Pocus seriously is my favorite movie, not even just for Halloween. This movie scares me so much and it’s a Disney movie. Why is that? I think I watched it a total of five times over the course of three days and I could totally watch it again. What’s even sadder is that I think I know almost all of the lines AND I find every part of the movie funny, even though it’s probably meant for children!
That’s all folks,
KEVIN!!!
