I’m a clutz

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

So funny story…I was walking out of my residence hall, headed towards the studio and i missed a step and fell down the steps! I proceeded to fall in a puddle of mud and twist my ankle. I have just returned from the hospital, where i found out i have a chip in my bone and a fracture. Yay for being a clutz. I was surprised at the amount of people concerned for my well being though which gives me alot of hope for mankind :) . So yay for campus! I just thought I’d update you all on my silly mishaps. Love you all!

economy

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

So I am still in search of internships, but it seems to be slim pickings recently. 3 out of the 7 I have applied to are no longer doing internships this summer due to lack of funding because of the economy. It hadn’t occurred to me that the recession would affect me as a college student, but the internships and jobs I would apply for this summer will be taking less people-if any at all! I’m scared. I need a job this summer to help save money for the next semester and give me pocket money. If I don get a job, not only will I be broke, but I’ll also be incredibly bored our of my mind at home. There are only so many times I can go to the mall, beach and watch tv before it gets old. Simply-I need a job!!! I will continue applying to everything I can think of, but I have this terrible feeling that I won’t be getting any call backs anytime soon :( I hope for the best. Wish me luck everyone!

rest and relaxation

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

In these though times today I think its always important to remember that rest and relaxation are some of the most important things. There are group classes available in our school’s athletic wellness center, which I think people should use more. For relaxation, there is yoga at 12 on tuesdays and thursdays, active yoga at 4 on wednesday, followed by gentle yoga on wednesdays on thursdays at 5. All yoga classes are held in room 101 of the gym. I find yoga, very comforting and it helps me de-stress. Some people don’t enjoy doing yoga, but if you do, I would recommend going to the classes just to get out of the room and do something that won’t make the stress build up. Rest and relaxation is key, and I think thats what most college students need.

sunny days!

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Although its February, somehow its almost 50 degrees and I couldn’t be happier. My favorite thing about spring is the warmer weather and being able to sit out in the sun. There is still snow on the hills and grass, but soon enough it will be cleared off by the sun and then I can’t wait to have picnics and do homework in the sun! If this is February, I just can’t wait for March and April!

snow day!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Today there was a snow storm and I’m very excited to say that classes were cancelled! I get to lay in bed, warm and toasty, hang out with my roommate Jenna and Eli and lounge around. If the roads clear up enough to get on the way, I had an idea to visit our friend Stef in Fishkill for the day and just watch tv and lounge around there too. I know some of you are wondering why I would drive 30 minutes to do the same thing at someone else’s house but sometimes its nice to get out of the norm and go do something different. If not, then I’ll just watch a lot of tv, go to the gym and do some homework.

Oh! On another note, I went to Ohio and Kentucky and I wanted to show you all some pictures of what it looked like

january 2009

Monday, January 19th, 2009

It seems like I fell off the earth for Winter break! But I promise I didn’t, and I’m back!! I’m back at school and I couldn’t be happier. Don’t get me wrong, its not like I hated home, but I missed my friends, my room, my roomie (Jenna!) and just New Paltz. The atmosphere up here is just so relaxing and calm, unlike the busy New York City. I’m beginning to think that I am getting tired of the rushed Times Square, Lincoln Center area that I grew up in and I’m beginning to enjoy the upstate area more.

finals over

Friday, December 19th, 2008

With finals over, I can’t wait to go home an take a month-long break! My brain is fried from all the studying, papers and presentations I had to do, so I don’t think I could go to another class even if I wanted to. On a side note, I wanted to inform you all that I wont be studying abroad next semester due to a fall through in a scholarship, but I will hopefully be deferring to fall 09, but I will be sure to keep you all updated. Yes I am disappointed, but I am trying to see the plus side to staying in New Paltz another semester and there are many events I can’t wait for! There’s drag ball with Queer Action Coalition, this allows me more time to apply for internships, more time spent with friends, and I can attend Rock Against Racism and Take Back the Night (my 2 favorite concerts in New Paltz)! So I’m finding the bright side of the unfortunate news and looking forward to returning to live with my roommate Jenna again and hang out with new and old friends. Happy Christmahannakwanzakkah! Enjoy the holidays everyone! :)

internships

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Because I’m studying abroad next semester, I need to start looking at internships now. Last summer, I worked in retail and needless to say (I think ll of you understand if you’ve ever worked it), I don’t really want to do it again. My co-workers were fun and my bosses were nice, but I was in Customer Service, and I feel like there are only so many times you can be yelled at for things out of your control before you become bitter.

Therefore, I am applying for internships and the amount of offers for apprentices or helpers in anything involving sculpture is almost non-existent. Sometimes, I really wonder if I should have just declared as a graphic design major. However I want to stand strong in my decision and not change my concentration just to get a better job.

I want an internship, where I can do something connected to the arts, even if its not pertaining to the fine arts, working in advertising or helping with non-profit organizations. I find it difficult sometimes to find jobs or internships that don’t require experience, but how do I get any experience if no one will give me a chance! Luckily through the career resource center on campus, they have eRecruiting, which allows you to look at internships specific to majors or interests and based on locations also! I find myself searching through their website at least once everyday and putting things in my “interesting jobs” folder I want to apply to. So wish me luck! I hope the last week of finals are going well for everyone!

thanksgiving

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

So I came home for thanksgiving, and I am so excited to see my friends and family! I love New Paltz, but sometimes I really miss home and the people I see all the time at home! I get to eat lots of turkey, lay in bed all day without thinking about the finals I’ll have when I get back, the friends I get to hang out with and spend some extra time with my familia! I hope everyone enjoys their thanksgiving break and takes advantage of the resting time. Happy thanksgiving everyone!

study abroad

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Hello all!

I am very excited to announce to you all, that I applied to study abroad next semester and I got in!!! I am going to Copenhagen, Denmark for Spring 2009 and I am very pumped! I am ready to experience new cultures and meet new people. I can’t wait to see new sights and all that jazz! I am just finishing registration right now and couldn’t be counting down to Jan 17th any faster, so although I will miss my friends and family, I am anxious to leave the country and see new things :) I will miss this campus and all of the activities and clubs I’m involved in, however I am willing to try new things to hopefully bring more to the campus when I get back! So in conclusion-YAY for Denmark!
