Getting back into the swing of things

Hello Everyone,

Last week was our spring break, which means we all got to relax and enjoy some time away from school for a little bit.  I spent the entire spring break with my best friend and her family.  For the first few days we were in Pennsylvania where I went to my first casino ever and won some money.  Then we went to Walden for the rest of break and got to tan a little bit because the weather was beautiful.

Now that we are all back it’s back to homework, classes, and projects.  It’s always hard the first week back because you are wishing that you were still on break.  Everyone says the same thing, “break wasn’t long enough”.

But he first week is over now and there aren’t any long breaks until the end of the year.  There are only about 5 more weeks until the last day of classes.  Which means about 7 more weeks until graduation.  I am getting really excited for graduation.  At first I was scared because I didn’t know what I was going to do after, but I have been applying for jobs and I am getting real excited for the next chapter in my life.

Until next time,

TIM :)

Post Spring Break: Colder than Ever Before!

Hello everybody!

So Spring Break has finally passed, and BOY did it go quickly. The Saturday before I had to come back, we had a close family friend pass, so my whole family has been taking that really hard, myself included. So me and my two friends Helaina and Laura hung out on that day and we went out to dinner with my grandma, and we watched Billy Madison (best feel good movie EVER!!) and we played a game of scrabble. Here is a picture of the three of us!

Not the most attractive picture, I know, but cute nonetheless! As you could see from that picture, and this pulls in with the title of my blog, I was wearing A TANK TOP. One day over break it was close to 80 degrees! This is for the third week in March. Today, it is so cold that Ihear the wind howling while I’m at work. It’s a good thing I kept my Northface and UGGs here, aka my stereotypical “Long Island Girl Clothes.”

Here, I was gonna put in a picture of the Willy Wonka meme that says, “You wear UGGs and a Northface? You must be from Long Island.” I was searching New Paltz Memes for literally 20 minutes and I could NOT find it! It’s craziness how popular that Facebook page is. For those of you who don’t know about it, Facebook Search New Paltz Memes. They’re all very funny!

So this weekend is definitely going to be an eventful one! This Saturday is Accepted Students Open House. Be sure to check it out if you are accepted here. It’s a great experience to meet other students your age, and it has all the information you would need in one place! It is from 10:00-3:00 THIS SATURDAY. Make sure to stop by our Atheltic and Wellness Center!

Then, on Sunday, AEPhi is having their annual AIDS walk! That starts at 11:30 at the Elting Gym. There will be raffles, bagels and ZUMBA! Then, the walk starst at 12:15. The walk is one mile throughout campus and then into town. Concluding from 12:30-1:30 is lunch at Cuddy’s, where 10% of the proceeds towards lunch food will go to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AID’S Foundation. So be sure to meet the lovely sisters there this Sunday!

The sisters!

So as you could tell, I am very busy but I am definitely going to keep news about New Paltz in my blogs so you could all get a taste of what campus life is like! If anyone ever has any questions about anything they ever see in any of my blogs, just comment below! I’m usually pretty quick in answering. :)

Until next time! :)  ~ Ashley

“Happy Spring!”

Hello Readers!

It has been a quick two weeks with the start of spring and a break at home. The weather as been really nice and everyone has been out and about enjoying the sun. There have also been some optimistic dressers in flip-flops and shorts. Although today was a little colder and rainy this morning on the way back to New Paltz, the sun is slowly starting to come out. It was perfect for a walk into town for lunch at Yanni restaurant café.

The week before spring break:

I had a lot more free time than I was use to since my metal classes had been cancelled. I was able to enjoy some time in the studio and work at my own pace throughout the day. I worked on a casting project of a tea strainer, and jewelry that I want to sell at the upcoming sale at the Watermarket in town. The highlight of the week was the field trip I took with my Contemporary Ideas class.

We went to Mike & Doug Starn Studio in Beacon. It is a photography studio of two brothers who work together on projects. We didn’t meet the brothers though; we met their studio assistants who showed us the work, the process, and their installations. Their recent work is “Big Bambú” which is a climbable sculpture of

bamboo and climbing rope. We got to climb throughout the sculptures that reached as tall as the ceiling. It was a lot of fun and interesting since most work is usually untouchable and behind glass.

Here are some pictures from their website!

Spring break:

This past week I spent at home on Long Island. It was great to see my family and spend time with them especially since it was my mom’s birthday! My mom, aunt, and I went to lunch at a cute café in Bayshore called Milk and Sugar to celebrate. I unfortunately only saw two of my friends since most of my friends have different breaks. I did watch the season finally of Pretty Little Liars with my friend, Crystal, and ate frozen yogurt at Red Mango with my friend, Olivia. Most of the week I spent cleaning my room. I decided during winter break that I wanted to repaint and redecorate my room, which has not changed at all since second grade. I first needed to completely clean my room and by the end of the week I accomplished the whole room and got rid of a lot of stuff that I didn’t need.

I am looking forward to the end of the semester especially with the warmer weather and the cute spring outfits I cant wait to wear!

Until Next Time Readers!

sprrrrring brrrrreak!

Hello everybody!

New Paltz is right around the corner as spring break comes to a close. I’m gonna do a really quick summary of what I have donne so far this spring break, and if anyone wants to share their stories of what they did/will be doing, I’d totally love to hear it!

Thursday night (3/15): I came back to Long Island a day early! I had to do some observations Friday in the morning for my observations class, so I got a 6:25 bus with Adirondack Trailways! (www.trailwaysny.com) This is the way that most of us college kids get home if we don’t have a car. You could go into the city with Trailways, to Port Authority, or you can go to any other major town in Long Island and Upstate, New York. :)

Friday (3/16): My first full day home! In the morning, I observed at a place called OTOhealth Hearing Care Centers. There are quite a few of tem, but I went to the East Islip office. After a fun day of observing, I went to my best friend’s 21st birthday party at night. There was a great turn out to that!

Saturday (3/17): Absolutely nothing fun happened here. I went out east to a town called Shirley to do my taxes. BOOORING. Oh, and did I mention I got $10 back? Oh well, paid for my lunch when I went to Nathan’s with my friend Paul!

Sunday (3/18): My friend from school, Safire, came to visit for a few days! Safire, Paul and I went to Long Beach and walked the boardwalk. We watched two movies (Step Brothers and …. something I obviously cannot remember :D ) We then went to 5 Guys Burgers and Fries for dinner, and finally settled down with a game of Monopoly on Paul’s iPad.

Monday (3/19): Monday, Safire and I went to Roosevelt Field Mall with Helaina, Kim and Ali after I had my college financial planner dude. This is something I think people should see if they aren’t a native islander!  It takes literally a whole day to really walk that mall. I got one really cute shirt from Aero, which I’m really hit and miss with them. After that, we came back home for dinner and then we went out for italian ices. The rest of the night was just laundry and lounging. :)

Tuesday (3/20): Safire went to the city to meet up with her roommate since I had more observations to do! This time, I went to a place in West Babylon village. That area is really cute! It’s a one way busy bustling little town with a lot of old architecture. Everything about it was really cute, even the street signs! After observing from 2-5, I just wanted to rest.

Wednesday (3/21): Yesterday, I saw my frriend Laura. I got to drive, which is really nice because it’s not something I always get to do and usually her mom has to take us places which I always feel REALLY bad about. We went to Kohls, Famous Footwear, and Chili’s for dinner. I realize that all there is to do in Long Island is shop and dine. :( Oh well, I am learning to control my finances better! All I got was a dress and a shirt. :) Then, last night Paul came over and we watched Billy Madison and lounged around.

Thursday (3/22): Today I spent time with my grandma! We drove around Massapequa, and got lunch at All American. (http://allamericanhamburger.us/) They have been voted in AOL’s Best Burger places back when AOL was famous. I got two pairs of shoes… which one can never have enough of. Oh well, I’m done shopping for this week hopefully!! :P

Rest of the break? Well, tomorrow is going to be a family day and then Saturday I am hanging with Helaina, Kim, Ali and Laura. I think I am *probably* sleeping over Helaina’s house because then we’re going back to New Paltz Sun morning! So excited hehe :) I think I want to try to start working out, but it’s so hard for me because I have health problems that get in the way of that… oh well. First thing’s first, time to start eating healthier!

Well, now that you all got to hear my boring rants… you can see how busy I have been and why I have not been posting as much! I will try to keep you all updated though. OH AND IF ANYONE GOES TO SEE THE HUNGER GAMES TONIGHT — HAVE FUN!! It’s all over every media outlet available — as it deserves to be but yeah. Craziness! Anyway talk to you all later! :)

SORRY!

Hello guys! Sorry I haven’t been posting a lot. My first/only midterm is Wednesday so I’ve been studying really hard for that.

All my work on the table!

So much stufffff :( I promise I will update with funness soon! Tonight, I went to the cosmic club’s glow in the dark frisbee, which was a lot of fun. I never knew how athletic my friend Ki Soo is… :)

Until next time! When I am done with midterms and will have a life.

xoxo, Ashley

Hello readers!

Only one more week until spring break and some of my class are already cancelled. The Metal Graduate students and my two professors are going to Germany for the week for Schmuck, which is a very popular Jewelry Exhibition.  I hope to someday attend this event, but since my professors will be away I do not have my metal classes this week. I am excited to have more time to myself and work in the studio.

In other news many of you may have seen the new Invisible Children video that has been trending on facebook and twitter. There has been some positive and negative feedback from the video. Check out the video if you haven’t seen it yet and make some comments about what you think!

Until Next Time!

One More Week

There’s one more week until spring break!!! I, as well as all students, are real excited for spring break.  It’s nice to have a break from classes once in a while and since spring break is the only long break we have during the Spring semester, so everyone is looking forward for this break.

Usually I don’t do anything exciting for spring break, but this year I am going to Pennsylvania to stay with my best friend and her family for the week.  I am looking forward to this break because it will be nice to have a little relaxation time.  I just have to make it through this week though, which is mid term week for me.

A lot of people had their mid terms last week, but mine are this week.  It’s not too bad because I only have two exams this week, but they are both on Friday which is going to be hard.  I’m going to be studying like crazy for these test all of this week, but then I get to enjoy my break.

5 Days until SPRING BREAK!!!

Midterms Here I Come

It’s time.

That oh so not fun time of midterms *GASP*

Luckily I got through my first one on Thursday, and I have 2 midterms next week and a regular test- Monday, Tuesday, AND Wednesday. Not looking forward to studying, which I should probably start today haha.

I spent all of Wednesday night in the late night study room in the library, which was open until 3am that day- needless to say that room has become my friend during midterms and finals. What’s great is that the library has recently started opening earlier and closing later on the weekends as well; check out their site! Our library has a lot of great resources like “Ask a Librarian” and the Interlibrary Loan System (where you can request a book not offered in our library). And of course, it’s a great place to study because you are surrounded by productive people (hopefully haha).

The best I can do is study and not freak out this week, and most importantly I should be looking forward to my 21st Birthday on Thursday woo!!!!! For everyone out there with midterms or with a stressful week ahead too, don’t stress it and do your best :)

I am also anxious for tomorrow night, because I will find out if I made it to second round interviews for RA Selection. On Friday we had Group Processing Day and had some fun team building events, I hope I make it the whole way! But I also wish luck to everyone else applying!

So now I’ll leave you, and I hope this nice weather continues into the week- go have a picnic!

:)

My first sleep away camp

Hey everyone,

I hope all is you all are doing fine.  I really wanted to tell you all about this past weekend.  The Resident Hall Student Association (RHSA) had their spring retreat this weekend.  Any member of hall government is eligible to go on the retreats and these retreats are different every semester; they range from rollerskating trips to  bowling trips.  This semester we went to a sleep away camp.

This retreat was an over night stay at a camp known as Green Hill.  A total of about thirty people came on this retreat and it was so much fun.  RHSA retreats are supposed to help students build their leadership skills by doing many different activities.  We did many activities through out the day that required us to work together and help us to get to know one another better.  I had a lot of fun doing all of these programs and making a lot of new friends.

When I was younger I never went to a sleep away camp, so getting to stay the night at the camp was one of the coolest parts of this trip for me.  There was a fireplace in our cabin too, so we all made a fire before we went to sleep.

Here are some pictures I took; have a look:

This whole experience was a lot of fun and I met a lot of cool and interesting people.  I was wondering if any of you have gone on any sort of retreat like this or sleep away camp and did how was your experience. Leave a comment below, I’d love to hear about at it.
