The Grind

Hello Everyone,

It’s been a hectic week with what’s been going on in the news. But putting that aside, the semester is winding down and its time to get into the grind. Finals are approaching (in my case, final papers… and a lot of them). It is important to stay on your game without being sucked in. Make sure to have time set aside for all the tasks you need to complete. But don’t punish yourself if everything isn’t perfect. Take a break and go out with friends. There will always be time to finish assignments if you’ve planned ahead.

This weekend I will be traveling to Moravian College in PA for my second track meet of the season. I am looking forward to racing the 1500m and 800m. My time previously was 4:58 and I am looking to lower that as much as possible! For those of you who do not know what a 1500 is, it is 100m short of a mile (one straightaway on a track). If you want your mile conversion from your 1500m time, add an additional 15-20 seconds.

Now that the year is coming to an end as well, I have to say I highly recommend becoming a New Paltz blogger. It is extremely rewarding and a experience I really enjoyed. I have a timeline of blogs to look back to about my junior year journey and hopefully helped recruit incoming freshmen to New Paltz. So for any prospective students out there, become a blogger, you’ll learn a lot about yourself and enjoy doing it. Blogging is a new hobby I picked up this year and it can be relaxing as well. But for now, I still have a few weeks and a few more experiences to blog!

A little bit of Culture on Campus :)

Hey readers!

In last week’s blog, I talked about my big South Asian Cultural Association dinner! It went really well despite a bunch of technical difficulties.

We were all dancing on stage when suddenly the music went out, no applause for the DJ at all. But overall we got the music started again and everybody had a great time:) After practicing for weeks and weeks, I am so glad everything went great. Here are a few pictures from the event:

Food, Dancing and lots of fun!

I wanted to talk about some time management skills because being involved in a lot of clubs takes up so much time. During my days, I usually find myself going to more club meetings and doing work for my organizations rather than school work which is totally not okay.

Tips for staying involved while staying in your books

1. If you can help it, don’t go to club meetings the weeks that you have midterms or any other huge exams coming up. The club leader will totally understand.

2. If you have to do work for all your clubs, try to set out a time period each day that you focus on just that. For example on Tuesday, I worked an hour just to get more points for our Hall Government in order to win hall of the semester

3. Always get your homework done before embarking on fun adventures. Trust me, you don’t want to go to bingo and then stay up till 1 writing a Spanish paper, not fun.

I think this totally defines college life haha, it’s all a balance between social life and good grades.

Hope you guys are having a good semester so far! Keep it up, midterms are approaching soon. Next week I will talk more about stress relief because I sure have one stressful week coming up!

Tip #2: Remember to get off campus :)

Hello again virtual world!

I hope everyone has had a great week so far!  I just finished my second week of classes and I am starting to feel settled into the semester.

For those who know me, and for those who don’t – life as an honor’s student, RA, member of Sexy Pitches, and NRHH president can get pretty hectic.  As EVERY and ANY college student can tell you, regardless of what they are involved in!  I’ve made it my goal for this year to improve my time management in a way that gives me more free time! I can already say that this is the best goal I have ever made.

tip #1 – Get Organized – I finally got myself set up with all my notebooks for classes, new planner, and a few weekly routines for hw and ra work.

tip #2- Grow with technology – Not gonna lie, I used to hate all things computer/cellphone related.  My clumsy hands would always have my device in pieces on the floor.  I challenged myself with an Iphone (Yes. Go ahead and laugh, having a delicate Iphone is a very big challenge for me) and it has done wonders!  I use my calendar and emails to keep myself up to date with meetings and events.

It really helps me to see my schedule neatly laid out on my phone.  I have so much more free time than I’ve realized.  I’m now trying to take advantage of it as much as possible! :)

Last weekend, a few friends and I went hiking at Lake Minnewaska State Park! It’s a gorgeous area and it’s not too far from campus (with a car).  It was so refreshing to get off campus for the day and just enjoy the sun!  Don’t get me wrong, I love our campus, but sometimes I need to remind myself theres a whole town waiting for me, just minutes away.

The start of the waterfall!

I hope you all have a great week!
