This past weekend I took a little break from my everyday life at New Paltz and attended a Shabbaton consisting of multiple colleges (both SUNY & non SUNY) at U Albany.  Some of the campuses included: U Albany, Union College, New Paltz, Binghamton, Oneonta, Queens College, Hofstra, Syracuse, Skidmore, Oswego, etc.  I attended as a part of my Sinai Scholars program.  There were ten of us in total from New Paltz at the Shabbaton.  For those readers who are reading this and don’t really understand what a Shabbaton is, allow me to explain.  A shabbaton is essentially an opportunity for different people to gather and celebrate Shabbat together.  Our Shabbaton was almost like a Jewish convention.  If you are curious about the title of the post, that was the slogan/tagline for the Shabbaton (it even says it on our free shirts that we got).  We would chant it when we wanted to rev our engines =P

This trip was a great opportunity for us to get together and learn from different campuses how their Jewish life is run.  I really like being a member of the Jewish community at New Paltz.  We are such a small community that I feel closely connected to everyone.  But I guess that’s Jew Paltz for you ;)

There was so much going on at the Shabbaton, especially Saturday night!  There was a falafel bar, chocolate fountain, s’mores over a roaring fire, airbrush tee shirts, drum circle, photo-booth, etc.  Saturday night was my favorite part of the entire weekend, hands down!

There was NEVER a moment throughout the entire weekend that I was hungry.  They fed us, fed us, and fed us some more.  There were snacks around every corner too.

And between all of the time we spent eating it was really nice to bond as a school.  I feel as though I got so much closer to some of the students I traveled with, which was seriously such a pleasure.  I did get to meet students from other schools, but getting to know the New Paltz students on another level really was just so great.  I also got to travel with my pledge sister Brooke, so it was great having her by my side through it all.  It was overall just a nice weekend =)
